It’s no secret that disagreements happen in any relationship. No two people are going to agree on 100% of everything, that’s totally normal. It’s very important to develop a healthy way of getting through these disagreements, though. If you don’t, you’ll never work through the issues, and they will continually build and build on each other, usually leading to mega blowout fights.
There’s a big difference in fighting fair and fighting dirty. Here’s some basic things to keep in mind for when those disagreements do happen, and how you can get through them with your partner in a peaceful, respectful manner, so you both can move onto all the good parts of the relationship.
Ever catch yourself scrolling through your social media feed and see a picture of a cute couple or a romantic quote and think to yourself, “why can’t my relationship be more like that?” I definitely have. And while it may seem like an innocent passing thought, those thoughts can be a lot more damaging than you realize.
Deciding to move in together is such an exciting step in a relationship. It’s nerve-wracking and wonderful in all the best ways. My boyfriend, Scott, and I were actually already living together when we decided to live together. Confusing, I know. But, we were living together as friends in a group house for about a year before we started dating. Then about a year after that, decided we wanted to live together just the two of us.
