Hiiii there, friends! It’s been a minute since I’ve just sat down and written something a bit more personal. And especially since I’ve shared any update on wedding planning! In all honesty, with everything that 2020 has thrown our way, wedding planning absolutely fell by the wayside and no longer was on my list of things to do.
With all of the uncertainty that Covid has brought us, there was definitely a part of me that felt it was a bit pointless to go ahead and plan something like that without knowing if it could even happen. My excitement fizzled out a bit for sure. (not trying to be all pooooor me about it, there are way bigger issues and things going on in the world right now. just sharing where I’m at)
But, we’re currently less than a year out (!!!) and I’ve decided that I need to just start planning this thing already. If next year rolls around and we need to adjust our plans, then we’ll do it. I’m *trying* to remain hopeful that we can still have our perfect dream wedding, but keeping in mind that flexibility is definitely required at a time like this.
And as my mom continues to remind me, all that matters at the end of the day is that Scott and I are going to spend the rest of our lives together!!
With all that said, I’m finally diving back into wedding planning, and getting things going. All we had accomplished previously was securing our date and venue, as well as making our guest list. So those are the big to-dos that have been checked off of our list since early February.
Now what?
Well, our venue requires us to have a day of coordinator (which truly I think will be a huge help). So I’ve reached out to the handful that our venue recommends, since I figured it’s easier to work with someone who is already familiar with the venue anyways, and I’m happy to work within a much smaller list than say ALL wedding coordinators in the DMV.
I reached out to 6 and heard back from 4, one of which who wasn’t going to know her availability for our date until November. I’ve got a call set up with one, in the process of setting up a call with another, and the third I haven’t heard back from since I followed up with her. I’m hoping between these calls I’ll be able to get a good idea on how we get along and it will be an easy decision from there!
With SO so so many weddings being rescheduled, essentially (if we’re in the clear with Covid) the 2021 wedding season will consist of both 2021 weddings AND 2020 weddings. I know a lot of people in the events business have been hit incredibly hard with Covid, but if they survive this tough season, business is about the be BOOMING next year! But with all of that, I think I really do need to jump on planning before everything gets booked up.
I really have no idea of what I want in terms of anything decor related, so the other thing I’m doing is starting to figure all of that out in Pinterest. I deleted everything off of my personal Pinterest account that I haven’t touched in years, and have created boards for ALL of the wedding things so that I can start to get a feel of what I want. Pinterest is such a GOLD mine when it comes to a lot of topics, but definitely weddings in particular. I’ve done a bit of searching already, but I’m going to try and block off time this weekend to
Using Pinterest is incredibly helpful both for organization and inspiration. But briefly searching already has shown me just how many decisions really go into a wedding, and we have made like 1 so far. We got some work to do! And by we, I mean me. (and my mom)
ps – I think I’ll make a blog post on how I organized my wedding planning and inspiration within Pinterest including all of the boards I made. It’s been so helpful for me, and if you don’t know where to begin with wedding planning (like me), I think it might be helpful for anyone else getting started planning!
What’s next? We need to start reaching out to ALL of the vendors. So many vendors. Like I mentioned, our venue provided a list of recommended vendors that aren’t a requirement to work with (aside from the caterers) but I figured it’s just easier to limit myself to this list and work with someone who is familiar with the venue already. It would take so much time to search through and narrow down all the various types of wedding vendors within the DMV, so I’m really trying to keep myself to this list and make things as easy and streamlined as possible.
Hoping with how far we are into Covid, vendors will have something in their contract about how we will handle things if we’re deep into the second wave come next spring. Hard to sign a contract (and put down significant money!!) with all of these uncertainties.
Also, Scott needs to call the hotels because near our venue there are like 2 and we need to get those booked STAT. That’s a bit tricky though since we really have no idea how many we need to block off. Who knows how our guests will feel come next year, especially anyone who will need to travel in order to get there.
Almost forgot another big thing and FUN thing on my list is to put together my bridesmaid, flower girl, and ring bearer proposal boxes. At the very least, my maid of honor!!
So, that’s where we’re at right now. Not a whole lot of actual progress has been made, but we’re getting things moving in the right direction and starting to make moves. Hopefully the next time I share an update I’ll have a wedding coordinator, a maid of honor, and maybe even a few vendors booked!
