Depending on your shoe collection and amount of space you have, shoe organization can sometimes be a challenge. Especially if you’re like me and tend to be a bit of a collector! AND depending on your fave kinda shoes, some can be very much on the bulky side. It *almost* doesn’t matter your closet size, it can be a struggle to figure it out either way! Of course more of one when you have a smaller closet, but you feel me.

Whether you’re limited on space, or just not quite sure which shoe organization system would work best for you, we are breaking down the absolute BEST shoe organization ideas for any collection size! If you aren’t sure where to even begin with shoe organizing, browse through below for plenty of inspiration.

Luckily, there are a LOT of options for shoe organization, which is great since everyone’s space is a little different, and sometimes you have to mix and match and make it work. There are options below for any closet size, or if you have to get creative/would prefer to store your shoes somewhere besides your closer! Looooottts of options to choose from, so let’s get to organizing!!

Closet Shoe Organization

Hanging Organizers

Hanging shoe organizers are definitely a go-to, especially when you have room in your closet to hold them. It’s a great way to be able to see what’s in your collection and keep them tidy. There are a few different options to choose from to make it work for your closet and the amount of space you can give up for your shoes!

Back of the Door Organizer

Another way to have a hanging organizer if you’re able to utilize a closet, bedroom, or bathroom door! Such a good way to use up space on the back of the door that would otherwise go unused!

Clear Boxes or Stackable Drawers

Clear boxes can be great if you are stacking shoes up and have pairs of shoes you would like to keep protected. Highly recommend going with clear so you can still see what’s in the boxes, and it’s not an out of sight out of mind kinda situation. These can be great for if you have a closet shelf higher up so you can stack them up, still see them, but keep them out of the way – a good way to store those special occasion kind of shoes!

Also a solid option for small closets or when you’re working with limited space. Stackable drawers are perfect because you can make it work no matter what kind of space you have, and you can still see your collection and what’s being stored within the drawers or boxes.

Stackable Shoe Holders

This is a shoe organization option that’s newer to me, but SO so clever! If you have any kind of shelving situation where you’re holding your shoes, these can be great to basically double the amount of storage on the shelves!! How amazing is that?! One of the shoes goes underneath the other so you can still see what shoes are being stored, but they take up a LOT less space!

Stackable Rack

Stackable racks are a great way to utilize the bottom of your closet, a space that often otherwise goes unused! You can get enough racks to make it work for your exact space and fit perfectly underneath your clothes that are hanging. OR you could go with a pre-made rack. I prefer the stackable kind since it’s more customizable!

Under the Bed Shoe Organization

If your closet is on the small side, or simply already filled up with shoes, using up the space underneath your bed can be a great option!

My only tip would be to use this for shoes you don’t wear all that often (if you have an option for shoe storage elsewhere as well). Perhaps special occasion shoes, or maybe out of season shoes? It might get annoying constantly having to pull them out from underneath your bed if it’s shoes you’re wearing on a regular basis!

If this is your main form of shoe storage, definitely go with an option that is easy to pull in and out since you’ll be accessing it so regularly!

Bedroom or Living Room Shoe Organization

Storage Ottoman/Bench

Functional furniture is such a win win, and a great way to make sure you’re using your space in the most efficient way. Storage ottomans are perfect for shoe storage, and can be placed in any number of spaces in your home. They can work at the foot of your bed, as your coffee table for your couch, as a footrest for an accent chair, as their own seating, under a window for a little seating nook, and more. Where ever you need some seating or a footrest and a bit of storage, it definitely can be helpful to go for an option that allows for storage within it or underneath!

Rotating Shoe Holder

If you have an unused corner, or need to be a bit more creative with your shoe organization, a rotating shoe holder can be a great way to store your shoes without taking up too much space!

Mudroom or Entryway Shoe Organization

Shoe Rack Storage Bench

These are similar to the storage ottomans/benches, but if you have room in your entryway, prefer to store your shoes there, or prefer for guests to store there shoes there, these can be a great option! Shoes are stored and out of the way, plus you have a place to sit and put them on before you head out! You also can have an option with storage above the bench itself for other items such as keys, mail, etc.

Shoe Rack

If you’re not a fan of having a bench there, or need more storage than a bench could provide, a simple shoe rack or shoe cabinet can be a great option for your mudroom or entryway!

Other Shoe Organization Ideas

Wall Mounted Shoe Rack

These are new to me, but if you need to really get creative with your shoe organization, these look like they could be a great option to explore! Not limited to any space in particular, and you could really stick them anywhere. Edge of the bed, bit of wall space in your closet, on sliding closet doors where you can’t hang any storage options onto them, etc.

Those are all the shoe organization ideas I have to share with you! I personally use a combo of hanging shoe storage, stackable shoe racks at the bottom of my closet, and a few clear shoe boxes for special pairs I want to keep nice. You might have to play tetris a bit to make it work!

I hope this gave you a bit of inspiration whether you’re limited on space or unsure on how to get started!
