Sharing a little bit of a life update on the blog today about big changes and transitions coming my way in the next few months.
Truthfully, I’m feeling all kinds of feels about this transition and change. I’m anxious (what else is new) and excited. I don’t really do well with change, especially big changes. I’ve been putting this transition off for a while now. But can’t put it off any longer! So I’m trying to work through these feelings of change and accept the big transition that is to come.
The End of Nannying
I started writing a post about ending nannying, and couldn’t get through the first paragraph without melting into a puddle of tears. Transitioning out of that chapter of my life will be hard. Not only am I really comfortable with that job and all I do there, but I absolutely adore those kids. I’ve been there for 4+ years, and not getting to see them on a weekly basis, is heartbreaking for me.
I’ve known this ending was coming, nannying is never a long term position. There’s always going to be an end date. Kids grow up, just how it goes.
Since the beginning of the 2018 school year I’ve been basically mourning the end of this job. That makes me sound so dramatic, but oh well. I think people don’t quite understand the bond you form with children you care for, unless you’ve done it. I love them like they’re my own. I’ve wiped tears, changed diapers, laughed with them, played, and so so so so much more. It’s been the best.
In a way, I feel really lucky that it is so hard for me to leave them. It means our time we all spent together was so special. Good ‘ol Winnie the Pooh summarizing exactly how I feel.

Full Time Blogging?
I was really hoping to transition out of nannying and straight into being a full time blogger. Turns out, I’m not really sure that makes sense for me right now.
I think I could do that, and make enough to get by. But for the financial goals Scott and I have for our future, it makes more sense for me to work full time. This way, I can save up as much as possible while we don’t have kids.
Took me a while to realize this and accept it. For a bit I really felt like getting a full time job outside of blogging was admitting to failure as a blogger. That I couldn’t successfully make the transition. But I’m trying to shake off that feeling and let go of my pride. I let myself pout about it a bit, but now it’s time to be realistic about what is the right move for our future.
I fully plan to keep on blogging on the side, which I know will be harder than I’m picturing in my head. But I love blogging so much, so I don’t think it will be tooooo too hard. At least I hope not. I mean, even writing this post just feels so good to me. I love writing and getting all my thoughts out. Sharing advice. All that fun stuff about blogging.
Also, I’m someone who does way better when I’m busy. I get it from my mama. If I have an entire day to get something done, I’ll put it off till the last minute, or even not get it done at all, because I’m always thinking that I have more time. But if I only have a few hours after work to get something done, I’m so much more likely to do it.
Anyways. The new loose plan for blogging is to keep on going. Do as much as I can while working whatever new job I’ll get. And hopefully be able to build up that income in the time Scott and I have before children, so when it is kid time, I can work from home.
It’s taken me a little while to heal my bruised ego, but I feel really good about this plan, and that it makes a lot more sense for us in the long term. TBH, I’m actually excited!
Starting the Job Search
After polling y’all on Instagram, seems like a lot of you are interested in job related updates, so I plan on sharing! It’s a totally new experience for me, and I’m more than happy to bring you guys along for the ride.
I went from college (where my part time job was nannying), straight to nannying another family, and that’s where I’ve been for the past 4+ years in my post grad life. Entering the corporate world is veryyyyy new.
(also side note, I have a note going in my phone of so many work/job related blog posts that I’m excited to eventually write!)
I’m a mix of emotions about this entire process. Like I said, it’s all new to me. Searching for a job. Making a grownup resume. Interviewing. Starting a new job. Adjusting to corporate life. New new new. Hello there, anxiety.
It’s also overwhelming deciding what I even want to do! At first I felt like I wasn’t really qualified for much of anything. But Scott reminded me of the fact that I’ve been blogging for the past (almost) 3 years, and I’ve built up a skill set during that time. I didn’t even think of it in that way, so I’m glad he helped me shift my perspective.
I’m currently thinking something in the marketing and/or PR world makes the most sense. I have skills from blogging that either directly apply or easily translate into skills I would need to work in those fields. Working in the hospitality industry also is something I’ve always been interested in, so that’s on my possible list as well.
I’ve been combing through pages and pages of jobs and reading descriptions, responsibilities, benefits, and all that jazz. It’s a lot. I’m struggling a bit with just how to organize all of it. Which to decide to apply to or even reach out to get more information.
I suppose that’s a good problem to have though. Better too many jobs out there for me to sift through than not enough. I’m not totally sure exactly how my blogging experience will transfer, so it’s definitely better for there to be more opportunities, in case some of them don’t work out.
Scott created an excel doc for me to organize all of these jobs I’m finding, but it’s still hard to keep track of them all. For now, I’m taking some notes of ones that stand out to me and bookmarking them.
I think what I actually need to do is prep my resume, which I’m definitely putting off. I have 0 idea how to make it stand out or be professional. Luckily, Scott said he will help me with that, and I can use all the help I can get! Then when that’s ready, when a really good job is posted, I’ll be ready to reach out.
That’s pretty much the gist of it for now. Gotta get started on my resume so I can start the interview process. Have I mentioned that I’m anxious???
