Spring has officially sprung! Although winter is doing it’s best to stay as long as possible, flowers are blooming, temperatures are slowly starting to make their way up, and I’m just itching to spend all of my time outdoors!
I’ve been brainstorming inexpensive stuff for Scott and me to do now that we can finally get outside and not be cramped indoors. I thought I’d round it all up in a list in case anyone else is wanting some date ideas for spring that are also super cheap, some are even free!
1. Berry picking
So many places do berry picking in the spring and summer, and it’s usually pretty inexpensive! Then, find a good recipe to try and bake up a storm together! You could even try to cook a full meal using the fruit you picked!
2. Picnics in the park
Hit up your local grocery store, grab some snacks, bring a blanket! Picnics in the park are a great cheap way to enjoy how beautiful it is outside. A fun twist would be assigning who is in charge of what, and surprising each other at the picnic. Example: I’m in charge of picking out the drinks and side dishes, he’s in charge of the main course, or something along those lines! Don’t forget to give each other a spending limit!
3. Hiking
Look up the best hikes in your area and make it a point to try a new one every weekend. Rank your favorites at the end!
4. Look up free events in your area
I’m 99% sure that no matter where you live you can look up free events near me and something will come up. You could even look it up for the nearest big city and I’m sure you will find plenty to do! I’m sure you could even search specifically for “outdoor” or “spring” and get even better ideas.
5. Check out Groupon for deals on inexpensive activities and events
There’s so many wine and food festivals coming up that I am always seeing on Groupon for very inexpensive!
6. Hit up your nearest downtown and explore your city for the day
Print out that list of free things to do and wander around. Or just grab yourselves an ice cream cone and wander around, see what you find!
7. Baseball game
Either major or minor league usually have cheap tickets for games. Nothing like baseball games in the warm weather. Add a hot dog, and you’re all set!
8. Yard sale shopping
It’s that time of year where there are yard sale signs filling up my neighborhood! Pick a nice day and drive around and follow the signs. Make a game of it and see who can find the coolest item under $1!
9. Rent a canoe or kayak
If you have this accessible to you, it’s usually fairly inexpensive to rent for a few hours. Great way to enjoy the outdoors and get a workout in too!
10. Hit up the local happy hours (with outdoor seating!)
Find all the happy hours in your area and hit up all the ones that have outdoor seating. Make a meal of it, most places have happy hour snacks for super cheap as well!
11. Find a local ferry ride
These tend to be inexpensive as well. Just look up the nearest one to you, bring some snacks, and enjoy the views!
12. Take a long walk around your neighborhood
Can you tell exploring is one of my favorite things to do? Nothing like walking around to get to know a place. Take a long walk around your entire neighborhood. Get lost. Take turns you never take. Watch all the changes of spring happening!
13. Barbecue
If you’re lucky enough to have a grill, then great, otherwise you need to make friends with someone who does 😉 If you live at an apartment complex, they sometimes have community grills, so check that out! Also, there are super cheap little grills you can get! But, grilling outside and hanging is the perfect kinda day to me!
14. Explore all the parks in your city
Find the best of the best! Explore them and find the hidden spots and gems of each park. Bring some crumbs and feed the birds. Sit on the bench and do some people watching! Find the playgrounds and play like you’re little kids again!
15. Garden
If you have space to garden, now is the time to start! Seeds and plants typically aren’t too expensive, and is a great way to spend some quality outdoor time. Plus, growing your own food is a great way to eat on the cheap!
I hope this sparked some ideas for you on cheap spring date ideas! Comment below if you have one that I missed!
