I blinked and 2019 was over. Although at the same time, it feels like the start of 2019 was ages ago. It was a big year for me in a lot of ways, and even though I’m seeing memes upon memes claiming how 2019 was complete trash, that definitely was not my experience. Before I jump ahead to what I hope and plan to work on accomplishing in 2020, I want to take a minute to reflect on this last year.
A few highlights…
My best friend had a baby. He is the most precious little guy I’ve ever seen, and I love him to pieces. I feel so lucky to be there for her throughout pregnancy and meet the little man right after he was born!
The Nationals won the World Series!!!
Scott and I didn’t move! First time in I don’t know how long that we didn’t move. Thankful for that one!
I got to go on my first blogging trip with a really wonderful brand – read more about that here! Lot’s more to say on NOW in the New Year!
Scott and I took a bunch of really big steps in planning for our future. More on that to come…
My cousin got married and I got to be apart of her ceremony!
Had my *golden* birthday (28 on the 28th).
But, the biggest thing for me personally was that I stopped nannying as my main job. May sound like not such a big deal, but ending nannying and getting a big girl job was HUGE for me.
First of all, I loved nannying and those kids to pieces. Being with them for 4 and a half years was a blessing and a half, and I’m so thankful I got lucky enough to be with that family when I applied all those years ago. It was hard as hell for that to come to an end (even though I do still get to see them).
But second, I think I held onto nannying for so long because I was afraid of taking the next step.
After I graduated college, I had no game plan. No idea or hint of an idea of what I wanted to do next. I felt lost for a really long time, and nannied in the mean time. I think I always expected that at some point along the way I’d figure it out, but it wasn’t until I was forced to that I actually did.
Anyone who has gone through the process of applying for jobs know hows extremely fun that can be. I feel like I got lucky because I think as far as job hunting goes, I got one fairly quickly.
Thanks to my best friend, I ended up getting a job for a really wonderful company. It’s only been a few months, but I loveeeee it. I get to work from home, which is so perfect for this introverted gal. I applied totally on a whim, expecting nothing, but it’s been such a good fit for me on so many levels, and I feel extremely lucky to have gotten this job!!
It’s been a crazy few months getting adjusted to a new job in a field I wasn’t all too familiar with prior, but I love (nearly) every second of it!
Alright, onto 2020
I’m someone who loves a fresh start, whether it’s a Monday, the start of a new month, or the ultimate fresh start of a new year. I’m bad about setting allllll the goals and not always following through on them. I’ve got a big time fear of failure that I’m working on overcoming. Trying to be more realistic with my goals this time around, and figuring out the game plan on how exactly to achieve them.
I wrote a post on How To Actually Achieve Your New Years Resolutions and Goals. TBH I think it’s some pretty good advice, now if I could only get myself to follow it…
Goals
Keep working on taking care of myself. I started to put effort into this goal at the end of November with developing a gym routine and working on my food choices, so I want to continue that. And also, make all the doctors appointments I’ve been avoiding.
Be consisted with posting both on my blogs. I’ve never been good about this and always let things get in the way. This is my biggest blogging goal for the year!! I’m aiming for 2x per week on each blog.
Cultivate happiness. I’ve realized happiness and gratitude doesn’t just happen, but needs to be actively worked on. I’m not 100% sure how to do that yet, but I plan to figure out some strategies and start implementing them.
There are a few other little ones here and there I have in mind, but those three are the biggies.
What are you working on in 2020?
