Having to live with a small kitchen can be a serious hassle. Always bumping into things. Cluttered counters. Not enough space to put everything away. Forgotten food in the fridge because you couldn’t see it. Overflowing cabinets. If you have a small kitchen, you know the struggle.
GOOD NEWS. There are some seriously amazing organizational and space saving products out there that will help maximize the space in your kitchen, adding SO much more room, and help your kitchen be organized! Goodbye disorganized and cluttered mess, and hello neat and tidy counters, where everything in your kitchen has a place.
I’ve rounded up some of my personal faves that I use in my kitchen, since I live in an apartment, and need to maximize my use of space. Plus, a few other’s that are highly rated and will help add bits of space here and there so you can finally have the organized and well kept kitchen of your dreams!
Simple Houseware Over the Cabinet Door Organizer Holder
We have two of these in our kitchen, and they’ve been amazing at adding more space! We use one for our rolls of foil, wax paper, parchment paper, and those types of items. The other holds our cutting boards. I believe you can mount there, but we just leave them hanging, and they’ve worked perfectly!
These are a great way to properly organize your fridge or cabinets so you can easily see what you actually have, minimize your waste and maximize your space. We have a couple of these in both our pantry cabinet and fridge, and they’ve been awesome!
Any clear bins would do really, as long as you measure what will fit in the space you’re looking to organize. I recently grabbed a bunch of clear plastic shoe boxes at Target that were $1 each! Definitely a less sturdy plastic, and I can’t use them in all the spaces I wanted to because they’re shaped different, but work fine in other spaces! I currently have them in my coat closet turned makeshift pantry. Post coming on how I organized that very soon!
Under The Sink Organizer
I have two of these under the sink organizers because I love them so much! Unfortunately, they don’t fit in my current bathroom or kitchen sink, but I used them in both of my previous apartments and they work great! Very easy to assemble, and allow you to mix and match to figure out what system will work best with the size and piping going on under the sink. Really allows for you to use that space efficiently!
Expandable + Stackable Cabinet Shelves
These are a great way to add more space and organization to your cabinets. They basically add extra shelves, for more storage. Great for shelves that are on the tall side, so you can get more out of the space. But they work on regular height shelves as well. Really helpful in maximizing your cabinet space!
Tupperware drawers and cabinets are notorious for getting all kinds of disorganized. They’re bulky and you’re always losing the lids, and it’s hard to ever find what you’re looking for. That’s why I recommend picking up some interlocking tupperware because they stack so neat and tidy, both the containers and the lids, and lock together so you never lose any pieces!
I hate having clutter on my counters, I try to keep them as cleared off as possible. Of course certain things have to stay on the counter, but these baskets are a great way to keep the non-essential items off of them. They come in a variety of styles and colors, so you can best match your kitchen!
You can also use them in your fridge for added storage, and your cabinets if space allows.
Undershelf paper towel holder
Another easy way to clear up some space on your counters, and better utilize the space underneath your cabinets! They can go over your cabinet doors as well. Either way, off your counters!
Pantry + Cabinet Tiered Organizer
These are great to have for your pantry or cabinets to better organize what you’re storing. If we ever store things in the back of our cabinet, they stay out of sight and out of mind, and totally forgotten about. But using these allows you to see everything you have in your cabinets, and better use the space. Highly recommend using these for storing spices or cans!
I don’t feel like I’ve totally perfected my pots and pans storage, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. You really shouldn’t store pots and pans on top of each other, unless they’re made for that, because you can scratch and damage them, especially non-stick. This allows you to stack without damaging anything, and makes it much easier to take out the pan you need.
These can be used in a wide variety of ways, but I always love having some lazy susans on hand for various places in my kitchen. Great for storing spices! I like putting these in my higher up cabinets, so then I can easily turn and reach whatever I have stored on them.
I know there are plenty of other ways to add space into a small kitchen, so if you have any ideas or tricks please leave them below!
Hopefully this gives you a jumping off point on how to better organize and use whatever space you do have in your kitchen, big or small!
