Sharing one of the easiest homemade sugar scrub recipes that I use on a regular basis for glowing and hydrated skin all year long! Using just 4 ingredients, this scrub will be perfect to buff away dry winter skin, or prep your skin for summer. It’s really nourishing, without being too heavy or greasy, and isn’t too rough on the skin.

Thank you to NOW® for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

The ingredients needed for the homemade sugar scrub recipe - sugar, jojoba oil, avocado oil, and vanilla essential oil.

Since starting to make this homemade sugar scrub, I’ve been totally hooked. It’s way more affordable to make this at home, plus you know each and every ingredient you’re putting in it. It’s honestly my favorite scrub I’ve ever used!

NOW® Solutions carrier oils are my favorite because they are such high quality. None of them are diluted with any other ingredient. Both the avocado oil and jojoba oil are each 100% made up of that oil.

Benefits of using a sugar scrub include more youthful looking skin, increased hydration, better absorption of products following scrub usage, and of course smoother skin.

Mixing the jojoba oil and sugar for the scrub.

I have found my skin responds really well to jojoba oil, and my original scrub recipe only contained that oil. I’ve been playing around with adding in avocado oil recently, and have really been liking that as well. Both of these oils are great for moisturizing the skin without being greasy or heavy. The vanilla essential oil is mainly because it makes it smell amazing!

My typical recipe is 1 part oil 2 parts sugar. You can play around with the oils you use and how much of each you include. I suggest starting with the recipe below, and altering to fit your skin’s needs!

Adding the vanilla essential oil with the jojoba and avocado oils to the jar.

Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 2 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 3 – 4 drops vanilla essential oil*
  • Container to mix and store the scrub – I used a washed out jelly jar.

All you need to do is combine all the ingredients! You can make this in as big or small of a batch as you’d like.

How to Use the Scrub

Take a small scoop into your hands when you’re in the shower, you could keep a tablespoon or spoon with your scrub container for this, I just use my hands. Then rub all over your body, gently.

You don’t need to press to hard into your skin when using this. Rub it as softly as possible, and the sugar in the scrub will do the work. Rinse off, and you’re left with soft, hydrated, and glowing skin.

When you’re drying off, dab your towel on your skin instead of rubbing, so the oil isn’t wiped away. It doesn’t take very long to absorb into the skin.

How often you use this scrub will depend on the sensitivity of your skin. I wouldn’t recommend using it every day, you don’t want to over-exfoliate your skin. Start out with 2-3 times per week, and see if you need to adjust.

Note: It can leave your shower a little slippery from the oil, so be careful you don’t slip!

My Favorite Uses

  • I like to use this before shaving to remove all the dead skin and get a closer shave.
  • This scrub really helps with the KP I deal with especially on my arms.
  • Works great as a hand and foot scrub – but it can be slippery so be careful. I usually do this for my feet sitting on the side of my tub.
  • Removing dead skin after a sunburn has healed – not while skin is still healing or tender!
  • If my lips are feeling very dry, this is usually in the winter, I’ll take a little and rub onto my lips to remove any dry skin and add hydration.
  • Smoothing any dry or rough spots – knees, elbows, etc.
  • Pretty much works great for smooth skin all over!

I highly recommend giving this homemade sugar scrub a try! I guarantee your skin will be glowing and hydrated, and you’ll be just as hooked as I am!

*Caution: NOW® Solutions Essential Oils are very concentrated and can be irritating to the skin. Avoid direct contact with skin and always dilute essential oils before topical use.
