With the cooler weather around the corner, I know we all could use a few good at home date night ideas. While there’s still plenty you can do outside, the colder it gets, the more likely you are to want to bundle up and stay indoors. At least that’s the case for us!
Even if it is spring and summer when you’re reading this, quality date night ins are never a bad idea. They work year round!
These would also be great if you’re a new parent and need to stay home with the baby, but want to have a little date night after the baby goes down. Easy and low key, but still a great way to enjoy each other’s company!
So, if you’re in need of some solid ideas to take a night in on the couch up a few notches in the romantic direction, I gotcha covered! Truly I think the best at home date involves a combination of all the various ideas below, so feel free to pick and choose your favorites, then put “Date Night” on the calendar, and enjoy!
I’m always a fan of the classic movie night in, and with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and whatever else, it’s pretty easy to watch any movie available! Here is a list of some really good boyfriend/husband approved chick flicks that are guaranteed winners for a solid romantic night in.
Don’t forget – get in your coziest jammies. Bring extra blankets. Build a fort is you’re really feeling those cozy vibes.
Snacks are an absolute must!
- Have one of you be in charge of the sweet and one of the salty, or one gets the snacks, the other gets the drinks.
- Find a fun snack recipe to try and make together.
- Grab a fun snack box filled with the classic movie theater snacks!
Okay, so I know not everyone is into puzzles, but I think they can get a bad rap. I’m pretty sure I’ve had some of my best conversations with people just sitting around the table, working on a puzzle. They’re a great way to spend some very relaxing time together.
They can also be a way to spend quality time together throughout the week, because if you get one of those giant puzzles, they definitely take more than one night!
Suggestion – don’t get one that’s TOO difficult, because you definitely don’t want to end up frustrated or annoyed at the puzzle! Been there. Once we did one that was like 90% sky and clouds and it was not a fun puzzling experience. I’m thinking this would be a good puzzle to try though!
I am pretty much always down for some board games. Always so much fun! There are plenty of board games that can be played with two people, or changed up a bit to make it work for two. You could easily turn these into a fun little drinking game too, if you wanted.
Some of our favorites are:
- Heads Up (app)
- Telestrations (my favorite game EVER but you need a group – perfect for a double date night in!)
- Exploding Kittens
- Jenga (you could write truth + dares on the Jenga pieces!)
Plenty of other really fun games for 2 or more as well!
PS – SO many of these games would be perfect for a group date night in as well!
Look up some cool recipes to try and make together that you might not normally have the time for during the week, or maybe ones you’ve always wanted to try.
Another idea would be one of you could be in charge of the meal, the other the dessert.
You could also turn it into a fun cooking challenge. Head to the grocery store and have each of you pick some mystery ingredients for the other person. Then when you get home, you each have to create a meal or side dish using what the other person picked out!
Or make a dish together with the mystery ingredients! Kinda like chopped, but date night edition!
Head to your local beer and wine store and pick out a bunch of different bottles you’ve wanted to try, look interesting, or ones you know you already like.
Here is a wine 101 guide, filled with plenty of information to get you started! And here is a cheese pairing guide for lots of different kinds of wines!
This wine tasting notepad will help you mark your thoughts on all the wines you’ve tasted, so you know which were favorites!
If you have a type of wine you already like (or even if you don’t), you could buy an expensive and cheap version of the same kind, and have blind taste tests!
DIY Sundae Bar
Stock up on all different kinds of ice cream, toppings, and whatever else you’d put in your ideal sundae, and create a little DIY sundae bar!
- Sprinkles (rainbow is obv the best, but maybe you want chocolate too)
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate sauce
- Magic Shell
- Mini gummy bears
- Your favorite candy chopped up
- Chocolate chips
- SO MUCH MORE!
Put the toppings in little bowls and spread them out along your table and get to creating your sundae masterpiece!
Build a Fort + Have a Picnic
Whether under the stars in your backyard, or in your living room, this is a fun way to up the intimacy, and add some variety to your average meal at home.
Light some candles. Get cozy. Bring your wine, dinner, sundae, or any combination, and enjoy the food and coziness together!
Download the app that shows you where the constellations are in the sky if you’re outside!
Arts & Crafts
This works if you’re gifted in the arts and crafts department, or if you’re not (as long as you’re willing to laugh at yourself!)
Decide on an art or craft and do it together. There are so many kits available online so you don’t have to individually buy each and every supply if you don’t want to, and then it’s all ready to go for you! An adult coloring book would also be great for this!
Ask Each Other Questions
There are so many books out there that are filled with questions to ask each other. Just a fun way to get some conversations going, whether it’s funny, thought-provoking, deep, or whatever you’re in the mood for. Good way to get to know each other better, and have some great conversations!
I hope some of these at home date night ideas give you a good jumping off point on how to create your own date night in! Get creative! It’s all about spending some good quality time together and enjoying each other’s company. There’s no wrong way to have a date night in, so do what works for you, and have fun!
